Does anybody else out there think that social media and both the liberal and conservative news giants have made a steaming mess of the Ferguson situation?

Confusion wrapped in opinion coated with bias, slathered in “click bait” with a dash of sensationalism.

I believe only God knows what happened that day, at this point.

This is sad on every level. Racially, nationally, legally.

Praying that nobody dies tonight in Ferguson. Praying for grieving parents and communities. Praying for an officer whose life will never be the same. Praying for a nation with red in her ledger. Praying for the oppressed, the down trodden and the systematically abused.

I don’t participate in social media myself except for reading some, but I saw something interesting and unusual in discussions of this case. People were struggling to understand the difference between what is legal and what is right – in other words what should happen if mistakes aren’t made. That’s a hard concept for many to accept, that law and morality aren’t identical. Laws and law enforcers are supposed to promote justice, but sometimes they make tragedy more likely.

You put your finger on it exactly when you said the officer’s life will never be the same. I expect it’s probably the first person he’s ever killed, surely the first without a weapon, and the importance of such an action should change anyone. No amount of training or heat of the moment can eliminate the psychic cost of knowing you are, from that irreversible moment on, a killer. Even the assurance that “it was him or me” won’t remove that chain.
